Japan Society for Surgical Wound Care (JSSWC) started as a subspecialty of Japan Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in June 2008. It promotes research, education, and publicity relevant to the development of surgical management of the "wound" the fundamental field of plastic surgeons. Management of injuries, chronic ulcerations, and scars is investigated analyzed and discussed. Thanks to the first committee members, especially to Director Motohiro Nozaki and President Kiyonori Harii, the membership has already surpassed 1000, and the Institute for Surgical Specialist of Wound Care was established over the past 2 years since the inception of the Society. Based on the achievements of these senior leaders, the new board of directors is set to further upgrade and expand the organization and its functions. 1)Increasing the membership, 2) holding lectures and examinations for specialists, 3) providing guidelines for wound management, and 4) social broadcasting are our immediate tasks. Treating injuries and burn wounds, and managing refractory ulcers and diabetic gangrene will be carried out by us plastic surgeons. The surgical specialists of JSSWC can successfully treat fresh injuries quickly and smartly. They can also manage long-unhealed ulcers. History of plastic surgery is rather short in our country; in the past, general surgeons were considered responsible for the "wound". Recently, however, the surgical field is divided into several special domains, like gastrointestinal surgery, cardiovascular surgery, the neurosurgery, etc. No one cares for the wound in a comprehensive manner. The field of "wound care" is, now experiencing a depopulation. There are some actual instances of pseudo-scientific treatments based in superstition done on the street. That is the very reason that we plastic surgeons have established this academic society. We treat the acute to chronic "wound" including scars and keloids as a whole, raise scientific knowledge to a higher level and further the degree of treatment. We return the outcome to the benefit of society. To put it simply, we turn out outstanding "Wound Care Specialists" who treat the wound quickly and aesthetically, and are capable of healing the incurable wound. October, 2010 |
